1977年(昭和52年)に梵鐘の分野で重要無形文化財保持者(「人間国宝」)に認定
香取秀真の長男
東京美術学校鋳金科に入学し、主任教授津田信夫の指導を受ける。製作にあたっては、古典研究を基礎とした。
1925年に東京美術学校鋳金科を卒業。
同年パリ万国装飾美術工芸博覧会(「アールデコ万博」)に「苺唐草文花器」を出品し銅牌を受賞
帝国美術院展覧会の工芸部門においては1930年(昭和5年)から3年続けて特選を受賞し帝展無鑑査となる。

Registered as a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property ("Living National Treasure") in the field of Buddhist bells in 1977.
Eldest son of Katori Hidemasa.
Entered the casting and metal-working department of the Tokyo Fine Arts School, where he was taught by the chief professor, Tsuda Nobuo. His production was based on classical studies.
Graduated from the casting and metal-forming department of the Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1925.
In the same year he exhibited his 'Strawberry Arabesque Vase' at the Universal Exposition of Decorative Arts and Crafts in Paris ('Expo Art Deco'), for which he was awarded a bronze medal.
In 1930, he was awarded a special prize in the crafts section of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts Exhibition for three years in a row, and became a non-examined member of the Imperial Exhibition.
